What is Emerald?

Emerald is a variety of the mineral Beryl.
Chemical composition: Beryllium-Aluminum-Silicate (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈).
The green color is caused by chromium, vanadium, or rarely iron.

Treatment of Emerald

Almost all emeralds are oiled to improve natural clarity. This is standard industry practice and accepted. Untreated emeralds are extremely rare and fetch top prices.

Resin / Polymer (rare, less desirable)
