What is Sphalerite?

Sphalerite is a zinc sulfide mineral and the most important source of zinc worldwide.
Chemical composition: Zinc Sulfide (ZnS).
The name comes from the Greek "sphaleros" (= deceptive), as the mineral was easily confused with other sulfides.
